Cumberland is a small community situated along the Ottawa River, about 15 minutes east of Orleans. The neighbourhood boundaries include Frank Kenny Road to the west, Canaan Road to the East, French Hill Road to the south, and the Ottawa River on the north. The Village of Cumberland is easily accessible via Regional Road 174 and it’s a quick drive down Old Montreal Road to Orleans. The Historic Village of Cumberland

Cumberland was founded in 1802 when the first residents settled along the river at the spot that is now known as Cumberland Village. With two local wharves, several mills, match factories, and stores, the village thrived for several decades, especially after the Canadian Northern Railway established an Ottawa−Hawkesbury line that stopped at Cumberland’s train station.

In 1999, almost 200 years after it was first incorporated, Cumberland officially became a city. Although Cumberland City was then amalgamated with the City of Ottawa just two short years later in 2001.
