Everything you Need to Know About Golf Course Living in Ottawa
If your idea of a perfect day is a good game of golf, you probably already know that the National Capital Area has a great selection of golf courses. But did you know that you can also live on a golf course in Ottawa? Aside from proximity to your favorite pastime, golf course living offers scenic views, a peaceful environment, convenient amenities, and a like-minded community. If you’re wondering if golf course living is for you, we’ve got you covered. Here’s everything you need to know about living in a golf course community in Ottawa.
Is Golf Course Living for You?
While there are a number of great perks to living in a golf course community, it may not be the right lifestyle for everyone. For avid golfers who long for scenic views and a community with similar interests, it’s an ideal lifestyle. But there are other factors to consider. Golf course homes are often priced higher than the competition and there are also usually fees for amenities and services. There may also be rules and restrictions that aren’t compatible with your lifestyle. And if privacy is a top concern, a golf course community may not be the best fit.
Do I have to Play Golf to Live on a Golf Course?
Not at all! You might think being an avid golfer is a requirement for golf course living. But many people who enjoy life in a golf course community don’t play at all. Choosing to live on or near a golf course is often about wanting a well-maintained neighbourhood with quality amenities and the potential for increasing property values.
Factors to Consider Before Moving to a Golf Course
As with any move, there are always things to take into consideration before deciding if golf course living is right for you. Probably the most important thing to research before choosing a golf course community are the rules and regulations. Because aesthetics are such a priority, most golf course neighbourhoods have a homeowner’s association (HOA) and fairly stringent rules and restrictions. Things like the colour of your home’s exterior, what you can and cannot store in your yard or driveway, and even if you can have a clothesline can all be part of the community regulations.
Your commute time and transit options should also be a consideration. Most golf courses are located well outside the city core. So, while your travel time to the course will be minutes, it could greatly increase your commute to work. And depending on the location you may be further from amenities and entertainment.
