It was later amalgamated with the City of Ottawa in 1907 and still retains much of its heritage. The Old Town Hall was built 1895 and is now the Ottawa East Community Center. The historic building remains a landmark and continues to serve the community over a hundred years later!

The association strives to maintain the history and heritage of the community while also improving the quality of life for residents. There are both elementary and high schools in Old Ottawa East including Immaculata High School, St. Nicholas Adult High School, Viscount Alexander Public School and Lady Evelyn Alternative elementary school. For the younger children, there is the Riverside Montessori Pre-School and the Rainbow Kidschool.
Saint Paul University on Main Street is a fully bilingual university with both undergraduate and graduate programs in Canon Law, Philosophy, Human Sciences, and Theology. And Carleton University is just a few minutes away in Old Ottawa South.
